Why Accountability is Key


Accountability: This is the number one reason to hire a nutrition coach. Most people have an idea of what is healthy and what is not. They need someone to coach them and stick with them through the process.

Food can be out of balance — even healthy food. Too much of one nutrient can leave you feeling tired and hungry. You also need someone who knows the science, who understands your body and how it truly works in order to provide the exact fuel source it needs. This is not always going to be what everyone else is eating. It also might look different the 1st month versus the 3rd or 6th month.

I most definitely hold people accountable in my nutrition program. What I feel is more important is to teach them to hold themselves accountable. When I’m gone, how do they stay successful? How can they keep the commitment to themselves? It’s such an important piece of the process that I feel is missing from the you-can-eat-everything-you-love programs being sold everyday online: Yes, you can eat everything you love. You can also loose control, gain weight, create disease and never stay committed to your health.

Hiring a coach should be about the details. They need to teach you the science behind food. They need to help you learn your body. You should understand what is happening when you eat and why you feel the way you do. You also should understand what it takes to change it when it goes the wrong way.

Finally, you need someone to teach you commitment. They need to instruct you on mental strength, not just physical —. they need to have high expectations of you so that you ultimately do the same for yourself.

You need someone who trains you to create daily habits on commitment and discipline no matter what life hands you. Without these tools, you will flip-flop in and out of a healthy lifestyle for the rest of your life.
